QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Feldenkrais and gesellschaft" – The words that two kids correctly spelled at the Scripps National Spelling Bee last night to become co-champions. Asking to use them in a sentence is cruel.

LIKE A G7

THE STORY

President Obama is kicking off MDW early with a world leader reunion called the G7 Summit.

REMIND ME.

G7 is an annual get together between, you guessed it, seven democracies. The US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the UK are all invited. Japan's hosting and everyone is talking geopolitics with a side of wasabi.

WHAT ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT?

The South China Sea. China and a few other Southeast Asian countries are fighting over who owns territory there. But instead of talking it out, China's decided to go ahead and build its own islands in the region, complete with military facilities. Cue international side-eye. Yesterday, all the VIPs at the G7 agreed that stopping China's advances in the region is a top priority.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Obama's in Hiroshima today. The visit is a BFD because he's the first sitting US president to visit the Japanese city where the US dropped an atomic bomb during WWII. Obama won't be asking if it's too late to say sorry for the nuclear attack, but he is using the visit as a way to encourage the international community to 'just say no' to nuclear weapons.

The G7 Summit is often a preview for big policy issues over the next year. Meaning you're going to be hearing a lot more about how to stop China's aggression in the South China Sea and how to curb the world's nuclear habit.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO ALWAYS WEARS CHOKERS…

The 90s are back. In more ways than one. Yesterday Kenneth Starr - the lawyer who led an investigation that resulted in Bill Clinton's impeachment in '98 - was fired as the president of Baylor University. That's because an independent review found that the university fumbled at handling sexual assault allegations …especially ones involving football players. Think: discouraging students from reporting accusations, not telling authorities. The football coach was also suspended for mishandling sexual assault accusations. Now, Starr's gone from the guy who called out Clinton, to university prez, to demoted law professor. Starr, fallen.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU WEAR YOUR HIGHEST SHOES AND CAN'T WALK…

No one saw that coming. Yesterday, Donald Trump's class superlative went from 'Most Likely to be the GOP Nominee' to 'Officially the Presumptive Nominee.' Meaning he's snagged enough delegates to win the nomination at the GOP convention in July. The magic delegate number? 1,237. Trump crossed that line yesterday when some previously unbound delegates said they'll support him at the convention. This means there's basically no chance of a 'contested convention' - aka going into the event without a clear nominee. It also means that Team Anti-Trump is eating pints of ice cream and posting inspirational quotes on Insta.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU NEED SOMETHING NEW TO BINGE WATCH…

Apple might be looking for a little something new, too. Yesterday, a report came out that Apple considered buying Time Warner last year. That didn't happen. But the report also says that Apple might say 'iBuy' to a streaming company (hint: Netflix). Possibly because Netflix's subscriber base is killing it, and it's a competitor to iTunes. Meanwhile, Snapchat also had a big day and announced it raised $1.8 billion in a Series F round. F is not for Fail. TBD on whether Snapchat will spend it on more filters that make you look like a dog or a ridiculously, ridiculously good looking version of yourself.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR FRIEND FORWARDS YOU ANOTHER 'OPEN LETTER TO MY 20-YEAR-OLD SELF'…

Gawker's feeling nostalgic too.

"Girls on Fire" by Robin Wasserman

A popular athlete's suicide brings two high school girls together - introverted Hannah and rebel Lacey. Their friendship gets dark, fast. It's a little bit "Heathers" with a 90s Nirvana vibe. You'll want it in your tote for your first summer beach trip.

SKIMM WINE

It's summer. Which means rosé. We've been hard at work sampling them for you (you're welcome). This is the one you'll want to stock up on.
